Neighbors Within Reach was born in 2013.
One day, armed with my camera, I stepped out my front door and extended myself to whatever person stood before me. I asked if I could photograph them in their homes explaining I was tired of not knowing who lived around me.
To my astonishment they acknowledged they shared that feeling and invited me into their homes.
This project recognizes those who live in my San Francisco Western Addition neighborhood.
For 20 years I lived in the same flat but never knew who my neighbors were: not the person who lived across the street, next door or around the corner. Neighbors Within Reach changed all that. Simultaneously it documented the enormous shift in the demographics of San Francisco. Many pictured here were evicted, bought out or moved away due to the economic development and gentrification.
