Interactions between the self and the larger society in which we live is often porous and complex, the need for autonomy coexists with the need to belong. These men at work are out there in plain sight and invisible at the same time. Disconnected and marginalised from the public they serve.
All these workers were located in and around San Francisco in the late 1990s. The famous Camera Obscura and the Castro movie theater remain here still. Other boxed offices no longer exist.
